Proposal photographer in France

You have about thirty seconds. We have one chance to photograph them, and we plan the whole thing around not being seen.

The session

The job is waiting, in the right place

Most of the work is standing still for a long time somewhere well chosen. We are in position twenty to thirty minutes before you, camera already set for the light of that hour, and then we do not move.

That stillness is what makes it invisible. A photographer hunting for a frame as you approach is visible at a hundred metres; one who has been sitting there for twenty minutes is part of the scenery.

Crowds help

This surprises people. On a busy promenade a person with a camera is one of dozens; in a deserted square they are the only thing worth looking at. We are not looking for the emptiest spot but for the one where we can disappear while keeping a clean angle.

Timing

Early morning, almost always. In Paris and Nice the places people actually want are unusable after nine, and the light before eight is the best of the day. If you have just flown in from North America, the time difference does the waking up for you.

What comes after

Twenty minutes together, straight away, while the tension is still coming down. A good number of couples extend that into a full couple photoshoot later in the trip, and many come back for the wedding itself.

Price

From €250 for about 1 h on site — see the pricing page. A deposit of 30% holds the date, and we take one proposal per day.

What holds you back

The questions people hesitate to ask

What if they spot you first?
That is the real risk, and distance solves it rather than cleverness. We work from a position validated during scouting, well off your approach, on a long lens. In a busy place a person with a camera is invisible; in an empty one they are the only thing to look at.
What if the answer is no?
We stop photographing immediately, we do not introduce ourselves, and you receive nothing. The booking still stands, but no images of that moment will exist. It has happened, and it is handled quietly.
We are only in the city for two days
That is the normal case. We scout without you from the meeting point you give us and send back a one-line instruction on how to arrive. You are not asked to come and look at anything in advance.
Can family be hiding nearby?
Yes, with a gathering point agreed off-camera. Each person let in on it is another pair of eyes that might give it away, so we keep the number down.
How long does it take?
About 1 h on site, most of it waiting. The proposal itself rarely lasts a minute.

How it runs

How it works

  1. The exact spot

Not “by the river” but a bench, a corner of a quay, a particular step. Ten metres changes what is in the frame, and in a crowded city it changes whether we can hide at all.

  2. Your approach

We agree which direction you arrive from. Walk towards us and your partner sees us before you do — the single most common way this goes wrong.

  3. The moment

In position half an hour early, still, on a long lens, out of your line of approach. No signal, no eye contact, nothing that could make them turn round.

  4. Afterwards

We introduce ourselves and carry straight on for twenty minutes while the adrenaline is still there. Those are usually the favourite frames.

Questions

Frequently asked

Which cities do you cover for proposals?

Paris and Nice most often, because both offer the distance the job needs — long quays, wide promenades, viewpoints. Elsewhere is possible, and we will tell you at scouting if a place simply has nowhere to stand.

Can we get one picture immediately to tell our families?

On request, one treated image the same evening, sent separately. The full gallery follows in the usual time.

Do you help choose the spot?

We narrow it down and give the trade-offs — this one is empty at seven and impossible at ten, that one has a view but nowhere to hide. You choose; we tell you what each choice costs.

Describe what you want to keep from it. You get back a written proposal with a figure in it, not a catalogue.
