A proposal is photographed once. There is no second take, the light is whatever it is, and the person being asked must not spot a photographer beforehand — which is why most of the work happens before anyone arrives. The exact spot is agreed in advance, along with the angle you will approach from and where you will stand, so the camera is already in position and already far away.

The moment itself is covered on a long lens from a distance, usually from somewhere neither of you would think to look. That is the difference between photographs of a proposal and photographs of a couple being watched by a stranger with a camera.

Once the answer is yes, the photographer comes over and the session turns into a short couple shoot on the spot — the fifteen minutes afterwards, when neither of you has quite come down, are usually the best frames of the day. Thirty-five retouched photographs follow in a private gallery.

Proposal: your questions

What if they spot you first?

Distance solves that, not cleverness. We work from a position agreed during scouting, well off your line of approach, on a long lens. In a busy place a person with a camera is invisible; in an empty one they are the only thing to look at, which is why the spot matters more than the gear.

What if the answer is no?

We stop photographing immediately, we do not introduce ourselves, and you receive nothing. The booking still stands. It has happened, and it is handled quietly.
